After a nice lunch in Picton, we boarded the TranzCoastal Train for a 5 hour journey to Christchurch. The views were more scenic than on the Overlander - passing by farm country, the Marlborough Wine Region, and the Ocean. The train was crowded, and we started with seats to ourselves (we had 2 of 4 seats with a table in between)- but told others would be boarding as we traveled south. UH OH, not much leg room with just two, and Lou was already tired ...

We lucked out and had 4 seats to ourselves until half way through the journey. Then a group of lively ladies packed into the table across from us - with one to share our little "pod." This turned out to be a highlight of our trip, as the gals were returning home from an overnight Road Trip to Kaikoura, and they were still in the party mood! Turned out to be lots of fun - Lou woke up, we shared some wine, and got some good recommendations for our stay in Christchurch and Queenstown.
