Kangaroo Island - Day 1

We left McLaren Vale at 7am, heading to Cape Jervis to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island. After an hour+ drive, we arrived at the ferry station. We took it as a good omen that we saw a full rainbow as we arrived:

Since I was driving, Lou had to board with the passengers, and I was left to my own devices to get on the boat! Yikes! They had me back it on, all the way to the end of the car compartment - I tried to explain, "but, I'm an American, and I'm already turned around when it comes to driving here..."

Couldn't see a lot from the ferry ride - it was only about 45 minutes, and it was rockin' and rollin' so we had to take our seats. It was raining as we arrived:

Time to disembark ... I headed downstairs with trepidation. Yikes again - the cars were so close I couldn't get in the driver's seat. Managed to squeeze in the passengers side and hop over ... waited my turn and getting off was a lot easier than getting on.

We got off the ferry, and drove an hour or so to Kingscote to stock up on provisions and have some lunch...

Then it was on to Snelling Beach - and our accommodations at Sky House. The drive was incredibly beautiful, the last 20 Km on dirt roads. Sometimes you book a place on the web and hope for the best; I think you'll agree, Sky House measures up:

The unassuming entry to the house:

A very nice one bedroom cottage on top of the cliff overlooking the ocean:

And, just so you know I'm actually on this trip - a self portrait:

I know you don't all share my obsession with tubs, but let me say - I think I'm in heaven ... (I'll spare you a photo of me soaking - with candles lit, I might add :) )

Views from the bedroom:

And from the back deck:

We may not see much of the rest of Kangaroo Island ...

  2. Wow Matt, you're not kidding! I'm usually not a fan of modern, but the suite is gorgeous. Add the incredible views and WOW! I really liked the McLaren building in the last post too.

Glad to see you're really there Sharon. :-)
