Surabaya

Surabaya is a large industrial city in Indonesia - it's a city of contrast - some very new, modern buildings, and lots of roadside shops and stands - selling everything from food, clothing, motorcycle helmets, and even petrol in vodka bottles (missed a shot of that).

We stayed at a lovely hotel - the Hotel Majapahit in downtown Surabaya. A beautiful old colonial style hotel:

Our luggage didn't arrive into Surabaya with us - but the Hotel did midnite laundry for us (we eventually received 2 out of 3 bags - still searching for the last one):

A very friendly gentleman from the hotel insisted on showing us the Presidential Suite -

The Newlyweds get their photo taken in the hotel courtyard (married two days and Chrisie is already stealing Yan's shirt :) )

A few photos of the new house:

Lou inspects the kitchen; in a typical Indonesian house, the kitchen is actually outside, so Chrisie and Yan had the walls rearranged to bring the kitchen into the house:

Chrisie is happy air conditioning has been installed - only in the bedroom now, they'll add more as they go. They also have a western style bathroom - they'll install a shower curtain to separate the shower from the rest of the room. The floor tile was just installed, so will get a good cleaning before the newlyweds move in.

They also have a guest room, a dining room, a large entryway, and maid's quarters (which will be used as an office). This photo shows the main living area, with the dining room to the left, and the large entry way.

And - a shot of the entry. You can see nice high ceilings. This will have some seating, as it's common to entertain your guests in the entry area of the house. In total, there is about 1100 sq. ft. of living space.

A few more random pics from Surabaya -
